Now You Have a Choice!” Lisa Kay Schweyer, program developer for the CommuterInfo Program of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, will present this workshop. Representatives from CommuteInfo, the regional ridesharing program of Southwestern PA Commission, and Port Authority of Allegheny County will discuss how they can help you get to work or to school by riding public transit, carpooling, vanpooling and biking, as well as walking. SEPT. 2—The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University and Bridgeway Capital will host the “Listening to Your Business” workshop from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at Chatham University, Braun Hall, Woodland Rd., Shadyside. This is a workshop based upon the FastTrac business development program. It is a hands-on facilitated workshop designed to provide women business owners and managers with the critical evaluation tools needed to maximize the growth and profitability of their business. Individuals will set a three-year vision plan, evaluate the planning process and translate one’s goals into action steps. The cost is $40 per person and registration is requested by Aug. 31. Record keeping
SEPT. 10—The Saint Vincent College Small Business Development Center will host a “Record Keeping and Tax Requirements for Small Business” workshop from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 300 Fraser Purchase Rd., Latrobe. Gary Breckly, of Gary W. Breckly and Associates, will lead this seminar on how one can learn how to avoid tax problems like back-taxes and penalties, and also the correct ways to manage one’s recordkeeping system. He will also discuss how to avoid mistakes many business owners make when preparing records, what type of records one will need to keep for taxes and auditing, recordkeeping requirements for compliance with sales and use tax laws, and more. Business tax deductions, taxpayer services, taxpayer ID numbers, employee withholding, payroll tax requirements and withholding, sales tax responsibility, and illustrations of good record keeping systems will also be discussed.
