Lalah Hathaway
The August Wilson Center for African American Culture presents Lalah Hathaway at 8 p.m. at the center, 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. Slip into the rich, silky sounds of songstress Lalah Hathaway as she kicks off the inaugural season of the brand new August Wilson Center. Hathaway hypnotizes with a soulful, jazzy repertoire rooted in the music of her native Chicago and filled with endless possibilities. Sweetwater Center for the Arts and Dwayne Dolphin presents the Music Series for Mauvno 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at 200 Broad St., Sewickley. Souls of My Sisters
The Sweetwater Center for the Arts presents “The Souls of My Sisters: Dedicated to First Lady Michelle Obama” exhibition from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at 200 Broad St., Sewickley. This exhibit is part of the 13th Annual Mavuno Festival of African-American Art and Culture. This is an exhibition of works by members of the regional artist group Women of Visions, Inc. WOV Inc. began in 1981 and has grown over the years to represent a diverse sampling of artistic styles, mediums and varied expressions of the personal, social and political experience of the African-American female artist. The Pittsburgh Jazz Society presents Jazz Day in the Park from 12-9 p.m. at Schenley Plaza, Oakland. Enjoy Pittsburgh’s finest jazz musicians and vocalists. The featured entertainment will be the Jazz Divas, the Jazz Divos, the Harold Betters Quartet featuring Kenny Blake, the Joe Negri Quartet, the Benny Binack Big Band, Roger Humphries RH Factor featuring Sean Jones and the American Latin Orchestra.
