LEED workshop

SEPT. 28—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania Business Institute will host “LEED The Way to Green Buildings—Part IV” from 12-4 p.m. at the Regional Enterprise Tower, 23rd Floor, R.A. Hunt Room. 425 Sixth Ave., Downtown. The topic for the workshop is “Sustainability & Green Products.” This is for business owners and professionals. Attendees will learn about expanding the availability and use of green building products in this region and about new options for improving one’s home and business. The featured speakers will be Richard V. Piacentini, executive director of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and Janice Donatelli, president of Artemis Environmental Building products. Job opportunities

SEPT. 30—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host a Business Program Series from 10:15-11 a.m. at the Squirrel Hill Namm Business Center, 5801 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill. The topic is “Do I Have to Work Til I’m 100? Hear About Local Job Opportunities For The Second Half of Your Life.” Joe D’Ana, a counselor for the Career Development Center, will present this workshop on job opportunities after retirement. Business with commonwealth

OCT. 1—The Saint Vincent College Small Business Development Center will host “Doing Business with the Commonwealth” from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Saint Vincent College, 300 Fraser Purchase Rd., Latrobe. The Pennsylvania Department of General Services will present this workshop and will provide the necessary information to anyone interested in doing business with the government. Topics will include locating state contracting opportunities, how the state purchases goods and services, using state contracting to “grow” a small business and state programs to help small businesses make use of contracting and subcontracting opportunities. The workshop will also cover certification of minority-owned and women-owned businesses. The owners of such businesses are especially urged to attend. The workshop is free and there will be a continental breakfast and materials are included. Registration is requested by Sept. 28. Professional networking

OCT. 1—Jessica Lee will host “Entrepreneurial Thursdays” from 5:30-8 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Downtown. This is a professional networking event with live jazz/R&B music.
