OCT. 8—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown and Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Retire When You Want to Regardless of the Stock Market.” Lee Feldman, president of the Association of Counselors for Equity Securities Inc., will present this workshop. He will discuss the essentials of financial planning and how to choose the right tools to achieve your retirement goals in spite of the market’s ups and downs. OCT. 9—Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship will host the Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series from 7:30 a.m.09 a.m. at the James Laughlin Music Hall, Woodland Road, Shadyside. Debra LeBlanc, vice president of Americas Channel Operations for Hewlett Packard and Chatham Alum, will be the guest speaker. She will discuss suggestions for improving business operations for small and large companies. OCT. 9—The Pittsburgh Times and PNC will host Business Women First from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel, 600 Commonwealth Place, Downtown. The panel will discuss the concept of peer-to-peer mentoring networks. There will also be networking opportunities and lunch. Scholarship gala

OCT. 10—The Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Black MBA Association will host its Annual Scholarship and Recognition Gala from 6 p.m.-12 a.m. at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, 4215 Fifth Ave., Oakland. The theme is “Connect-Reconnect.” This is the chapter’s signature event held to award scholarships to high school seniors, undergraduates and graduate students. The keynote speaker will be Candi Castleberry-Singleton, chief inclusion and diversity officer for UPMC, and Darieth Chisolm, WPXI anchorwoman, will be the mistress of ceremonies.
