For the time being Schenley and Brashear are tied for first place in the City League with 5-1 records—No disrespect to Oliver who has only played five games (4-1 record). In the process, Schenley had to get past Peabody (3-3), 28-6, who is showing why they’re the League’s “other team to watch.”

“We are gaining a better understanding of what it takes to be a winner,” said Schenley’s head coach Jason Bell. “Each and every week presents a different challenge and this team is always doing what they need to do to win games.”
One game to pay attention to next week is, Langley and Allderdice—who are both winless this season and looking to stay out of the basement for the remainder of this 2009 season. Allderdice is looking to register their first victory since the 2007-08 season.
Schenley notched two special teams scores, despite only accumulating 127 yards of total offense. Both of them were recorded by Jerome Mathews. The first was on a punt return of 30 yards in the first quarter. The other was on a free kick that followed a safety in which Peabody’s Jalen Coleman was tackled in the end zone by Schenley’s Aaron Manker in the second quarter. Mathews took it in from 68 yards out.

Peabody got its lone score on a one-yard run in the third quarter by Daniel Burrell. The two-point conversion was good when DeVaughn Jemison found Earnest Jones on a pass for the "deuce."
Schenley set up a scoreless fourth quarter when Mathews scored on a 39-yard run as the quarter ended.
“We are very happy with the way things stand right now,” said Bell. “We are growing together, as a team, the kids are beginning to (grasp) team concept. I feel like we are getting better and better every week.”
OTHER GAMES
Brashear 35, Carrick 6
Brashear proved in this game why they have some of the best offensive weapons in the City League. Manasseh Garner put on a show. He finished the game with seven receptions for 264 yards and three scores. These scores came on scores of 20, 79, and 30 yards.
Bulls’ quarterback Henri Chatman was no slouch himself. He blazed Carrick’s defense as he completed 17 of 20 passes for 398 yards; five touchdowns and no interceptions. His other touchdown passes were to Eric Lynch (49 yards) and Dillon Semien (6 yards).
Carrick’s Jajuan Thomas scored on a 52-yard pass from Ryan Roeper in the third quarter.
Westinghouse 43, Langley 0
Westinghouse officially left the ‘winless club’ as they put up a blow-out performance against the Langley Mustangs.
David Pryor was the offensive leader in this game as he carried the ball 17 times for 135 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 1, 2, and 36 yards. ‘The House’ also scored on a 8 yards run by William Brown, a safety, a one-yard run by Darrell Cosby, and a 15-yard run by Kaleeq Anderson.
Their kicker Bayshaun Lei was 3 for 4 on extra point attempts—a rarity in the City League.
