Fred Wesley and the JB’s bring the funk to Navarro

THE JB’S AT NAVARRO—Soul Power with the legendary Fred Wesley and the JB’s featuring Pittsburgh bassist Dwayne Dolphin and DJ Stephan Broadus headlined a free concert at Navarro Oct. 2, during the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Gallery Crawl in the Cultural District. Everybody knows that nothing is funkier than James Brown’s band. Trombonist Fred Wesley, along with saxophonist Maceo Parker, served as the driving force that transformed the “Godfather of Soul” sound from soul to funk. Wesley was the band director for most of those James Brown years.
