The winning points came off of the legs of Allderdice (1-6, 1-5) quarterback Mike Pfleger—literally. He scored on a four-yard run in triple overtime and tacked on the extra point to bury conference opponent Langley (0-6, 0-6) by the final count of 33-32.

“It was a good win,” said Allderdice head coach Jerry Hazlett. “It should’ve never even gotten to that point. We should have closed it out a long time ago, which shows you the effort on Langley’s part.”
Allderdice has not won a game since late in the 2007 season, when they finished with a 7-5 record.
“I talk to my players and encourage them,” said Hazlett. “I tell them to pick their heads up and just play the game. It was obviously hard for them to have gone through some of the adversity that they have in the past, especially going 0-9 last season. We are a young team and it won’t be long before we get ourselves back together again.”
Along with Pfleger’s rushing touchdown, he also passed for one other score—a seven-yard pass to Duke Mulhilll in the first quarter. Marlon Brown led the Dragons on offense, finishing with 17 carries for 100 yards on the ground.

Langley, however, was not going down without a fight. Quarterback Jaquan Green completed 17 of 39 passes for 231 yards with 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. They fought back from a 14-0 deficit to get an opportunity to send it to overtime. That effort was capped off by a 30-yard touchdown pass from Green to Louis Helms with 2:09 left in regulation. Langley scored first in the third overtime on a 2-yard Helms pass from Green, but Pfleger responded with a touchdown and extra point to win the game.
Next week, watch the two first place teams in Oliver and Brashear do battle at Cupples Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Perry (5-2, 5-2) 31, Westinghouse (1-6, 1-5) 0
On an evening when the 1989 AAA state championship team was honored with a special ceremony, Richard Lowry, who leads the City League in rushing, ran for 144 yards and a touchdown to help Perry shut out Westinghouse, 31-0. Aaron Patterson ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and Greg McGhee passed and ran for scores for the Commodores.
Oliver 14 (5-1, 5-1), Carrick 12 (2-5, 2-4)
Carrick almost pulled off another upset as they gave first place Oliver a game that would go down to the wire. Both teams scored in the first quarter. For Carrick, quarterback Ryan Roeper took the ball in for a score from nine yards out. Also, Oliver’s Shakil Brown scored on a five-yard run. Both two-point conversion runs failed.
In the second quarter, Oliver’s Phillip Upsher-Ferguson scored on a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dante Jeter. The winning points would come on the following two-point conversion by Martise Smith.
Carrick would score again in the third quarter on a 16-yard run by Rasheed McKamey but the two-point conversion failed which rounded out the scoring.
Brashear 20 (6-1, 6-1), Peabody (3-4, 3-3) 6
Peabody is right in the toughest part of their schedule. They could not register a win in bad weather as Brashear had established a game plan and stuck to it.
The game plan would be executed through its running attack.
Senior tailback Bruce Patterson carried the ball 24 times for 100 yards to lead his team on offense. He was the only player in the game who had over 100 yards of individual offense.
“The weather was ugly so we had decided that we were going to keep it on the ground,” said Brashear head coach Rick Murphy. “We understood that they also had a weapon in the tailback so we wanted our defense to contain him and force them to pass.”
For Peabody, Shannon Binion scored on a 74-yard pass from quarterback DeVaughn Jemison in the second quarter.
Patterson scored on a 14-yard touchdown to add to his 100-yard game. Brashear also scored on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Henri Chatman to Ricky Gay. Cody Magliocca tacked on two field goals from 30 and 23 yards out for the Bulls.
