OCT. 28—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host “Get P.A.I.D. A Guide For Businesses To Getting Paid Faster (And What To Do If You Don’t)” from 10:15-11 a.m. at the Namm Business Center, 5801 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill. Robert S. Kickoff luncheon

OCT. 28—The Allegheny County Bar Association will host its Institute for Gender Equality Kickoff Luncheon at 11:45 at the Omni William Penn Hotel, 530 William Penn Place, Downtown. The kickoff luncheon will feature presentations by the Hon. Marjorie O. Rendell, who serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit; and Chicago attorney Laurel Bellows, a nationally recognized women’s rights advocate. The Allegheny County Bar Association Institute for Gender Equality was founded as a tool to aid in the advancement of women in leadership positions in the Allegheny County legal community and more. October luncheon

OCT. 29—The Downtown Women’s Club of Pittsburgh will host their October Luncheon from 12-1 p.m. at Café J’s, 3220 W. Liberty Ave., Dormont. OCT. 29—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “It’s Your Money: Pennsylvania’s Confusing and Amusing Sales Tax Application.” Mary Bach, chair of the Consumer Issues Task Force for the Pennsylvania AARP, will be the presenter and will discuss what items are taxable and what ones are exempt. Certification/contracting workshop

Oct. 30—The U.S. Small Business Administration will host an 8(a) and HUBZone Certification & Contracting workshop from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Riverside Center for Innovation, 700 River Ave., 1st floor Conference Room, North Side. Tax seminar

NOV. 2—The Duquesne University School of Leadership and Professional Advancement from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Duquesne Room, Duquesne Union, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. The seminar is designed to provide updates on Pennsylvania tax for accountants, personal income tax, the use of tax voluntary compliance programs, state treasury department and unemployment compensation tax updates and more. NOV. 3—The accessAbilities Foundation will host an Estate Planning Seminar at 6 p.m. at the accessAbilities Corporate Offices, 2904 Seminary Dr., Greensburg. Arc convention

NOV. 12—The Arc of the United States will host the 2009 National Convention from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd., Downtown. The theme is “Inspiring Innovation: With Adversity Comes Opportunity.” The keynote speaker will be Stedman Graham, an Entrepreneur, Author and Motivational Speaker.
