Oliver (6-1, 6-1) was not phased by the fact that they hadn’t beaten defending champs Brashear (6-2, 6-2) since the 2006-07 season. They only allowed one score from Brashear’s normally “high-powered” offense in a 20-7 victory Saturday afternoon at Cupples Stadium.
Next week Allderdice and Westinghouse will take the field at Cupples for a Saturday matinee, with the kickoff scheduled for noon. These teams have a ton of youths on their rosters and each is looking to make a statement win as they look to improve in the future.

Oliver struck first with a 49-yard touchdown pass from Tyrek Morgan to Martise Smith in the second quarter. Later on in that quarter, Tyree Mathis would also score on a 73-yard touchdown run to put Oliver ahead, 12-0.
“This was only one game,” said Oliver head coach Tim Keefer. “We’ve done a great job from going to the outhouse to the penthouse (this season).”
Brashear scored their only points of the game with only three seconds left in the first half with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Henri Chatman to Manasseh Garner. Chatman went 12 of 23 for 120 yards and no interceptions. Oliver’s defense held star running back Bruce Patterson to 12 carries for 31 yards and -20 yards of total team rushing in this game.
The victory for the Bears snapped a six-game winning streak for Brashear, their first loss since going down in week one to Perry.
“They just played better than us,” Murphy said. “We made some mistakes on key plays. When it comes down to it, we have to learn how to lose.”

The Bears would score again after a scoreless third on a 9-yard pass from Dante Jeter to David Marshall in the fourth to make the score 18-7. Oliver would add a safety in the final minutes. They are now tied at the top of the City League standings with Schenley who is also 6-1 on the year.
“It feels great to be No. 1,” said Smith. “It’s hard to put into words how I feel right now.”
Other games:
Schenley 35, Allderdice 0
It was all Jerome Mathews in this one, literally. He carried the ball 19 times for 139 yards and four touchdowns. DeAndre Black also scored on a 76-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for the first place Spartans. Allderdice goes down just one week removed from its first win of the season against Langley.
Perry 32, DuBois 27
In a rare non-conference matchup at Cupples, Perry welcomed an upstate opponent in DuBois to the ’Burgh, first introducing them to junior quarterback Greg McGhee. McGhee accounted for three of four Perry’s offensive scores, including the one to win it for the Commodores with three seconds left in the game. He also accounted for all 64 yards on the winning drive.
“We have the utmost confidence in Greg McGhee,” said Perry’s head coach Bill Gallagher. “He went out there, and when we needed him to, he put the ball on the money. He had an outstanding game.”
Perry’s running back Richard Lowry carried the ball 32 times for 102 yards and had the only other Perry score.
Carrick 42, Langley 6
The Mustangs continued to be winless against Carrick. Rasheed McKamey carried the ball 24 times for 204 yards and three touchdowns for the Raiders. Robert Fields added on two scores on a 23-yard run and a 46-yard interception return. Quarterback Brendon Drake also had a nice performance, completing 14 of 24 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.
Westinghouse 30, Peabody 0
Westinghouse pitched a shutout against the Highlanders who are currently on a three-game losing streak. Only 33 yards were accumulated by both team’s starting quarterbacks. Darrel Cosby (Westinghouse) had 27 yards and Dontae Forte (Peabody) had 6.
However, Cosby did have a 23-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Falls. He also had two rushing touchdowns of 45 and one yards to help his team down their “East End” foes. Devante Olverson would tack on a 32-yard fumble recovery to help matters out for his Bulldogs.
SCHEDULE:
Barring a major upset with only one game left, Schenley should win the City League regular season championship because of their 6-0 defeat of Oliver earlier in the season. There will be a playoff involving eight of the nine teams immediately after the season ends.
