NOV. 4—The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center will host The First Step: Business Startup Essentials from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the university’s Rockwell Hall, Room 505, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. This seminar is designed to teach individuals about the process of starting a small business, this workshop will address the many issues that face entrepreneurs in today’s changing world. Topics include business structure and formation, insurance, government procurement and major components of the business plan, among others. NOV. 5—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Financial Management for the Unemployed.” Career coach Marben Bland will be the presenter and will discuss useful strategies to maximize your money while looking for strategies for new employment. NOV. 5—Jessica Lee will host “Entrepreneurial Thursdays” from 5:30-8 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Downtown. This is a professional networking event with live jazz/R&B music. NOV. 6—Saint Vincent College Small Business Development Center and Keystone Innovation Zone will host the Alternative Financing Forum from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Fred Rogers Conference Center, 300 Fraser Purchase Rd., Latrobe. Lending professionals from numerous nonprofit, private sector and government agencies, which are dedicated to making capital available to grow business ventures and will provide an overview of each organization’s financing programs and lending preferences. Microsoft 7 workshop

The workshop will demonstrate new features of Windows 7, explain how it’s different from its predecessors and illustrate how it’s designed to improve productivity for the small- and medium-sized business.
