NOV. 4—The National Council for Urban Peace and Justice will host the Campaign for Drug De-Criminalization & Amnesty from 6-8 p.m. at the Hill House, 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District. This is a community forum that’s part of an ongoing effort to end gang and drug-related violence and will discuss the decriminalization of drugs, the connection between drugs and community violence, the progress on the war on drugs and the responsibility of parents, educators and public officials. Diversity conference
NOV. 5—Family Design Resources and Three Rivers Adoption Council will host a Diversity Conference at 9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, 2750 Mosside Blvd., Monroeville. The theme is “Diversity, It’s Not Just Black and White.” Sharon E. Moore will be the keynote speaker, along with panel guests, which include Marcia Sturdivant, Eleanor Bush, Esq., Candi Castleberry-Singleton and Joseph Petrella. This is a conference on diversity for professionals from child welfare, juvenile justice, education, medical and mental health fields. The conference will run through Nov. 6. NOV. 6—The Urban League of Pittsburgh will host the 2009 State of Black Pittsburgh Opportunity Fair and Town Hall Meeting from 3:30-9 p.m. at the Carnegie Mellon University Center, 5000 Forbes Ave., Oakland. There will be exhibitors with information regarding jobs, education, finances and family. Followed by an address by Urban League President and CEO Esther Bush and keynote speaker Roland Martin. Empowerment seminar
NOV. 7—Softer Side Seminars will host the 2nd Annual Mother & Daughter Empowerment Symposium from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Holy Rosary School, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. The theme is “I’m Every Woman.” There will be workshops, presentations, panel discussions, entertainment and more. This is for parents/guardians who are seeking information that will aid in the selection of the best school for their child for the upcoming 2010/2011 school year.
