Evan Frazier had big shoes to fill, joining the Hill House Association as president and CEO following the death of its long-time director Jim Henry. Now, after six years, the big shoes to fill are Frazier’s as he has announced his departure to take a position as Highmark’s senior vice president of community affairs in January.
“My position may change, but my commitment to the Hill House and the Hill District is unwavering,” he said. “I look forward to watching the Hill House and the communities it serves grow and flourish in the years to come.”

During his tenure, the Hill House Association turned an ancillary storage space into a revenue generating Family Dollar store, and acquired the neighboring office and retail space built by developer Irv Williams. Frazier also directed a $9 million capital campaign, more than half of which is going to restore the Kaufmann Center and Elsie Hillman Auditorium to a destination for music and culture.
“I wasn’t in the market, but when this opportunity was presented to me, with the ability to have a wider impact, and the professional growth opportunities—it seemed like the natural next step.
Frazier also positioned Hill House to act as a major service and training provider via the community benefits agreement signed by the city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and the Pittsburgh Penguins relating to the construction of the Consol Energy Arena, future economic development in the Hill District and the current Mellon Arena site.
Hill House Board Chairman Greg Spencer will lead the transition effort and announce an interim president and CEO while a search is conducted for Frazier’s replacement. He said the experienced executive team will help ensure a smooth transition.
“Evan’s leadership has helped strengthen the Hill House in ways that will have an impact for years,” said Spencer. “He will be working closely with us in the transition to assure continuity as we look to identify a successor with his same type of drive and energy.”
Prior to joining the Hill House, Frazier worked as a vice president for PNC Bank and as vice president of the Manchester Bidwell Corp. David O’Brian, an executive vice president with Highmark, said Frazier is a perfect fit for his new position.
“We are focused on improving community health and there is no one more qualified to help us do that than Evan Frazier,” he said. “He brings community know-how, heart and soul to a position that requires all three. We believe he will be a tremendous asset to our executive team.”
