Business luncheon

DEC. 2—The board of directors of the African-American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host their Annual Business Luncheon at 12 p.m. at the Omni William Penn Hotel, 530 William Penn Place, Downtown. The keynote speaker will be Robert P. Kelly, chairman and CEO of BNY Mellon. Reservations are requested by Nov. 27 and the cost is $65 for members and $75 for non-members. Marketing makeover

DEC. 2—Bynums Marketing & Communications will host a “Marketing Makeover” Workshop from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Cardello Building, 2nd floor, Conference room, 701 N. Point Dr., North Side. This workshop will teach individuals how to avoid marketing chokepoints that can sabotage one’s success, how to get higher response rates, how to grow one’s business in any economy and how to outsmart one’s competition. DEC. 3—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Doing Investment Research? Find Out How Our Library Can Help!” Jeffrey Fortescue, manager of Business and Reference at the Carnegie Library Downtown branch, will be the presenter and will discuss how our resources can help you become a better investor. Professional networking

DEC. 3—Jessica Lee will host “Entrepreneurial Thursdays” from 5:30-8 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Downtown. This is a professional networking event with live jazz/R&B music. “Life Balance Entrepreneurs.” There is a $10 cover charge with a full bar and dinner selections. Business casual is the attire. First step

DEC. 4—University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center will host “First Step: Mechanics of Starting A Small Business” from 7:30-10 a.m. at the university’s Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Dr., Oakland. This workshop will discuss how to get the financing one needs to start a business, learn about business structures, how to access helpful resources and understand the forms that will allow one to establish their business. Community marketplace

DEC. 5—Hosanna House will host a Community Marketplace from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 807 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg. The Marketplace is to develop a venue where people bring their families to visit and be entertained while shopping and networking. Business basics

Dec. 5—SCORE will host their Small Business Workshop from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at DeVry University, 210 Sixth Ave., Downtown. This highly interactive workshop is geared to aspiring and existing small business entrepreneurs. Business professionals cover the topics of small business planning, recordkeeping, taxes, financing, marketing and legal aspects. The cost is $45 and registration is requested by Dec. 5. Award ceremony

DEC. 7—Jennifer Antkowiak of KDKA and Pittsburgh Professional Women will host the 2010 Women of Integrity Awards Luncheon from 1-3 p.m. at the Sheraton Station Square, W. Station Square Dr., Station Square. The Women of Integrity award is presented to four businesswomen in western Pennsylvania each year. Awardees are women  who have balanced career and civic responsibility, who share their success by mentoring others and supporting their communities. The emcee will be Allison Morris of KDKA.
