Jazz classics
DEC. 2—The Point Park University Black Student Union will host the Soul Food Social: Jazz Classics at 7 p.m. at the University’s Ballroom, 201 Wood St., Downtown. The keynote speaker will be Candi Castleberry-Singleton of UPMC. She will speak on the importance of diversity and inclusion in today’s society. Forensic training
DEC. 3—Mercy Behavioral Health, the Allegheny Engagement Network and others will host “From Arrest to Treatment: Behavioral Health and the Criminal Justice System” from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Allegheny County Human Services Building, One Smithfield St., Downtown. This is a free forensic training for homeless providers, case managers and more. Individuals will learn more about the judicial process from arrest to court-mandated treatment for adults. Addiction discussion
DEC. 3—Tobacco Free Allegheny will host their Tobacco Free Coalition Meeting “Casinos, Addiction and Smoking: Impact on the Community” from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the United Way headquarters, 1250 Penn Ave., Strip District. This is a discussion of the connection between the brain, addiction, smoking and gambling. The speakers will be Dr. Antoine Douaihy and Cele Fichter DeSando. Space is limited. Christmas party
DEC. 3—The Carnegie Museum of Art will host a Christmas Tree Party from 5:30-8 p.m. at 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland. This annual tradition was started by the women’s committee of Carnegie Museum of Art. The holiday trees are themed in celebration of the re-opening of Bruce Galleries titled “Useful Beauty: Celebrating the Decorative Arts.” There will be music, cocktails and food. Holiday market
DEC. 5—The Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area will host a Holiday Artist Market from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Pump House, 880 E Waterfront Dr., Munhall. The market will feature locally made, one of a kind functional and decorative ethnic crafts and food. There will be metalwork, African fiber-arts, Bulgarian pottery, Native American beadwork and more. ‘Divabetic’
DEC. 5—The West Penn Allegheny Health System will host Divabetic from 1-4 p.m. at West Penn Hospital Conference Center and Wintergarden, 4800 Friendship Ave., Bloomfield. This is a program designed for women with diabetes. Max Szadek, Mr. Divabetic and the Divabetic Team, will show women how to live life with diabetes like a diva. There will be moving like a diva, surviving the holidays, a holiday cooking demonstration and makeovers with Mary Kay. The event is free. Space is limited and registration is requested by Dec. 1. Rib dinner fundraiser
DEC. 6—The American Legion Walter Robinson Post 450 will host the Barbeque Rib Dinners Veteran Fundraiser at 12 p.m. at 20 Chadwick, Sewickley. Reindeer ball
DEC. 13—Pittsburgh Mercy Health System will host their 6th Annual Reindeer Ball from 4-7 p.m. at the Westin Convention Center Ballroom, 1000 Liberty Ave., Downtown. This is a benefit gala for the children served by A Child’s Place at Mercy. This is an event for the whole family. There will be dancing with Mrs. Claus, a holiday revue, Jingles the Elf and storybook characters. Tickets are $80 for adults and $45 for kids. Food drive
ONGOING—The Dinwiddie Community Alliance will host a Food Drive from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the James F. Henry Hill House Center lobby, 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District.
