Schenley falls in first round game to Erie Cathedral Prep

Schenley (10-2) did not come up with much offensively as they were ousted by Cathedral Prep High school, 44-12, in the first-round of the PIAA State Playoffs on Nov. 27. Despite taking an eight game winning streak and its surrounding momentum into Veteran’s Stadium in Erie, they were slashed by Prep’s talented backfield.

Prep’s quarterback Shayquawn Pullium completed three passes on nine attempts for 35 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. He added on 12 carries for 78 yards, including a 23-yard scamper for a score in the second quarter. However, the majority of the damage offensively from Prep came from their featured back, Justin Wiley, who gained 139 yards on just 12 carries with four of them going for scores.

Schenley’s Jerome Mathews, Jeron Grayson and DeAndre Black all combined for 15 carries for just 40 yards on the ground. Livingston Wright led the Spartans in receptions with four for 69 yards.

The City League champions were outscored 37-0 in the first three quarters. Their first score came on a 26-yard touchdown catch by Grayson from Beck. The second was also from Beck, this time going to DeAndre Black from four yards out. Beck finished with seven completions on 15 attempts for 105 yards and three interceptions.

Schenley will compete as a Class A team in the program’s final year of competition next season.
