DEC. 9—A For the People Insurance Agency Inc. will host the Insurance Training Institute at 2514 Wylie Ave., Hill District. Annual fundraiser

DEC. 12—The Union Project will host their 8th Annual Unwrapped Circus Fundraiser from 7-11 p.m. at 801 N. Negley Ave., Oakland. Step inside this three-ring circus featuring a world of incubation, innovation, expression and creativity. There will be ceramics, stained glass, live art demos, puppet installations, dancers and more. Tickets include complimentary drinks, food and entertainment. Day of oneness

DEC. 12—The Community Empowerment Association and Interfaith Ministries of Greater Clairton will host “A Call to Oneness, Reconciliation and Prayer” from 5:30 p.m.-12 a.m. at Clairton Education Center, 501 Waddell Ave., Clairton. This event is for all who’ve lost a loved one to tragedy and uniting communities to keep youths safe. It is in memory of the three children lost in the fire. There will be a candlelight vigil, spaghetti fundraising dinner and a play for peace all night basketball tournament. Proceeds will benefit a scholarship fund in the three children’s name. Queens luncheon

DEC. 12—The Harriet Tubman Guild Inc. will host their annual Queens Luncheon from 12-3 p.m. at the Omni William Penn Hotel, 530 William Penn Place, Downtown. There will be a meal, entertainment by the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church male gospel chorus and a presentation of the Winona Idell Lincoln service award. Reindeer ball

DEC. 13—Pittsburgh Mercy Health System will host their 6th Annual Reindeer Ball from 4-7 p.m. at the Westin Convention Center Ballroom, 1000 Liberty Ave., Downtown. This is a benefit gala for the children served by A Child’s Place at Mercy. This is an event for the whole family. There will be dancing with Mrs. Claus, a holiday revue, Jingles the Elf and storybook characters. Tickets are $80 for adults and $45 for kids. Skate with Santa

DEC. 13—Q92.9 and Citiparks City of Pittsburgh Department of Parks and Recreation will host “Skate with Santa” from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Schenley Park Skating Rink, Overlook Dr., Oakland. This is a special opportunity to ice skate with Santa Claus before Christmas. This is a family event. There will be photos available with Santa. There will be great music, refreshments and more. Dazzle in denim

DEC. 14—The Children’s Sickle Cell Foundation Inc. will host a “Dazzle In Denim” Event from 6-10 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, 4215 5th Ave., Oakland. The event will promote awareness of sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait. This is an evening of awareness, entertainment and a silent auction. Book drive

DEC. 17—The Jerome Bettis Bus Stops Here Foundation will host a Book Drive at 7:15 p.m. at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, 2705 East Carson St., South Side. This is an evening of fun for the whole family. Customers can purchase books for donation and receive a 10 percent discount and also Joseph-Beth will donate 20 percent of their total sales made between 7-9 p.m. Bettis and his mother, Gladys, will read classic Christmas tales. Kwanzaa celebration

DEC. 26—The Community Empowerment Association will host their 2009 Kwanzaa Celebration at the Kingsley Association Community Center, 6435 Frankstown Ave., Homewood. There will be food, children’s activities, hip-hop and spoken word performances, specialty vendors, national and local artists, food, an award ceremony and more. Celebration of lights

ONGOING—Allegheny County Rite Aid and WTAE-TV will host The “Rite Aid Celebration of Lights” at 6 p.m. at Hartwood Acres, 215 Saxonburg Blvd., Pittsburgh. This is the 18th year for the 3.5-mile stretch light show of holiday light displays at Hartwood Acres. There will be holiday themed characters and displays. The cost is $12 per carload and the proceeds benefit the Salvation Army’s/ WTAE-TV Project Bundle. For more information, call Ashley Flower at 717-975-5718.
