Resume/cover letters

DEC. 29—CareerLink Pittsburgh will host “Resumes/ Cover Letters 1: Creating Your Draft” from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Downtown Pittsburgh CareerLink Workshop Center, Regional Enterprise Tower, 22nd floor, 425 Sixth Ave., Downtown. CareerLink will help individuals plan and create their resume and cover letter, which are important job search documents. The workshop is free and open to the public. Registration is requested. Interview skills

DEC. 29—CareerLink Pittsburgh will host “Interviewing with Confidence from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Allegheny West CareerLink, Robinson Plaza Two, Suite 410, Robinson Township. This workshop will help individuals prepare for interviews by teaching the importance of first impressions, the do’s and don’ts of interviews and frequent mistakes. Financial series

JAN. 6—The YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh will host their Financial Empowerment Series from 6:30-8 p.m. at the YWCA Homewood-Brushton location, 6907 Frankstown Rd., Homewood. Every Wednesday from now through Jan. 27, this interactive series of four workshops is designed to correct unhealthy financial habits and help consumers gain control of their financial lives. The workshop will cover various topics such as Making the Commitment-Budgeting; Using Banks and Credit Unions; Credit and Credit Repair; and Saving and Investing. There will be free parking, child care and a copy of your credit report. Registration is required. The cost is $6 per workshop or $20 for the entire series if paid before Jan. 5. JAN. 7—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Your Legal Rights in the Workplace.” Nicole Scialabba, Esq., employment project coordinator for Neighborhood Legal Services Association will be the presenter and will inform employees about their legal rights when dealing with pre-employment, current employment and post employment issues. Professional networking

JAN. 7—Jessica Lee will host “Entrepreneurial Thursdays” from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Downtown. This is a professional networking event with live jazz/R&B music. There is a $10 cover charge with a full bar and dinner selections. Business casual is the attire. No jeans or tennis shoes. Small business workshop

JAN. 9—The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University and SCORE will host the Small Business Basics Workshop from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the University Mellon Board Room. This workshop is for women interested in starting their own business or expanding their current one. Industry experts will discuss business planning, financing, marketing and legal issues. JAN. 14—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “What You Need to Know to Protect Your Credit and Credit Scores.” Jenn Carr, certified credit Consultant of Credit Justice Services, will teach attendees about the credit scoring system, what type of credit one should have, whether paying one’s credit cards on time is enough, and how credit card debt can help or hurt one’s score. This session will also explain how once can become personally involved in understanding their credit report and turn less than perfect credit into the solid credit scores one deserves. The topic is “Resolution Get Organized in 2010, Need Help? Ask the Experts!” A panel of local experts from the National Association of Professional Organizers will answer questions about organizing one’s office, home, and life in general.
