Santaland
DEC. 23—Macy’s Department Store’s Downtown location will host Santaland from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at 400 Fifth Ave., Downtown. Parents can bring their children to visit Santa and share their Christmas wishes and take a photo with him. There will also be a gift shop available. Santaland runs through Dec. 24. Kwanzaa celebration
DEC. 26—The Community Empowerment Association will host their 2009 Kwanzaa Celebration from 3-9 p.m. at the Kingsley Association Community Center, 6435 Frankstown Ave., Homewood. There will be food, children’s activities, hip-hop and spoken word performances, specialty vendors, national and local artists, food, an awards ceremony and more. Sorority ball
DEC. 26—IVY Charitable Endowment of Pittsburgh, an affiliate of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., will host the Second Annual Precious to Cultured Pearls Presentation Ball at 6 p.m. at Churchill Valley Country Club, 800 Beulah Rd., Churchill. The ball will feature special guests and honorary co-chairs Judge Dwayne Woodruff and his wife, Joy Maxberry Woodruff. There will be cocktails, hors d’ouvres, a special presentation and dinner and dancing. Tickets are $85 and proceeds will benefit community programs and services to assist the community. Kwanzaa celebration
DEC. 26—The B.M.N. Cultural Center will host a Kwanzaa Celebration and Blues Bash “Kwanzaa First Nite Umoja” from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. at 449 East 8th Ave., West Homestead. Kwanzaa celebration
DEC. 30—The Young Men and Women’s African Heritage Association Board of Directors will host Kwanzaa: A Pledge for Change Using the 7 Kwanzaa Principles from 4-8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Banquet Space, 302 W. North Ave., North Side. The evening will feature a drum circle, African dance, raffles for children and adults, the history of Kwanzaa, food, vendors, a fashion exhibit, a scavenger hunt and more. First night
DEC. 31—The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will host First Night Pittsburgh 2010 at 6 p.m. at the Cultural District, Downtown. This is the largest Pittsburgh New Year’s Eve celebration. There will be more than 100 exhibitions, a showcase of music, dance and other entertainment. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display. This event is for the entire family. Tickets are $8. Forensic seminars
JAN. 15—The Duquesne University Wecht Institute of Forensics Science and Law will host the Forensic Fridays Seminar from 1-4:30 p.m. at Duquesne University, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. Each month there will be a seminar covering forensics in relation to topics such as medical malpractice, accident reconstruction and sexual assault cases. This series is geared toward attorneys, judges, physicians, nurses, law enforcement officers and athletic trainers. The series is worth credits.
