Community meeting
JAN. 14—The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Sports and Exhibition Authority will host a Community Meeting from 6-7:30 p.m. at Epiphany Church, 1018 Centre Ave., Hill District. The meeting will provide an update on key activities associated with the construction of the Consol Energy Center, minority participation, anticipated needs for future vendors and updates on the hotel being built next to the arena. Forensic seminars
JAN. 15—The Duquesne University Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law will host the Forensic Fridays Seminar from 1-4:30 p.m. at Duquesne University, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. Each month there will be a seminar covering forensics in relation to medical malpractice, accident reconstruction and sexual assault cases. This series is geared toward attorneys, judges, physicians, nurses, law enforcement officers and athletic trainers. The series is worth credits. Adoption webinar
JAN. 17—Adoptions From the Heart will host an online Webinar on Adopting African-American Infants at 7 p.m. This online version of an informational meeting will teach attendees about the agency and their programs. The webinar will focus on African-American and African-American Biracial Domestic Adoption programs. It is open to anyone living anywhere in the U.S., and will be led by an AFTH social worker who will be available to answer any questions. Registration is requested by Jan. 12. Grief support group
JAN. 18—Family Hospice, Palliative Care and Bidwell Presbyterian Church will host a Grief Support Group from 7-8:30 p.m. at 1025 Liverpool St., North Side. Every third Monday of the month, there will be a 90-minute session designed to help those coping with the loss of a loved one by finding support from professional bereavement specialists and fellowship with those going through a similar experience. JAN. 21—The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania Greater Pittsburgh will host a “Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘N’ Roll” series at 7 p.m. at Carnegie Mellon University, Porter Hall, 5000 Forbes Ave., Oakland. The third Thursday of every month the group will use this three part series to discuss controversial issues to engage students and community members to learn, debate and form their own views on topics.
