Sweetwater Center for the Arts and Clearview Federal Credit Union present The 6th Annual Clearview Federal Credit Union Sweet Jazz Music Series from 7-9 p.m. at 200 Broad St., Sewickley. Every Friday in February Sweetwater will use their series to showcase local talent. This week’s featured entertainer will be Betty Douglas. Douglas, Lou Schreiber and Dave Pellow will present “It’s Magic,” a program of classical jazz, from soulful ballads to scat-infused swing. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 the day of the event for members and $12 in advance and $15 the day of the event for non-members. From Page to Stage
The Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company presents “From Page to Stage” at 8 p.m. at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. This performance serves to introduce this groundbreaking theater company to the public as well as to preview the balance of the 2010 PPTCO season through staged readings of scenes from upcoming shows, which include, VALU-MART, The Ancestor, Series and Jitney. Jazz collaboration
The Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild Jazz presents their 23rd Season at 8 p.m. at 1815 Metropolitan St., Manchester. The evening will feature a Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald with Kim Nazarian and members of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and the MCG Jazz Orchestra. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust presents “Showcase Noir: African American Artist and Designer Exhibit and Sale” at 11 a.m. at Byham Theater, 101 6th St., Cultural District. There will be a special presentation by Grammy winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, a South African a cappella group.
