Certification/Contracting workshop

JAN. 27—The U.S. Small Business Administration will host an 8(a) and HUBZone Certification & Contracting workshop from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Riverside Center for Innovation, 1st floor Conference Room, 700 River Ave., North Side. JAN. 27—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host a Business Program Series from 10:15-11 a.m. at the Namm Business Center, 5801 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill. The topic is “Save Money on Your Home Heating Bills With Energy Efficient Techniques.” Kathie Santelli of Vox Energy Solutions will discuss the benefits of home energy audits, solar panels and solar thermal and wind energy. Financial series

JAN. 27—The YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh will host their Financial Empowerment Series from 6:30-8 p.m. at the YWCA Homewood-Brushton, 6907 Frankstown Rd., Homewood. Every Wednesday from now through Jan. 27, this interactive series of four workshops are designed to correct unhealthy financial habits and help consumers gain control of their financial lives. The workshop will cover various topics such as Making the Commitment-Budgeting; Using Banks and Credit Unions; Credit and Credit Repair; and Saving and Investing. There will be free parking, child care and a copy of your credit report. Registration is required. The cost is $6 per workshop. Luncheon

JAN. 28—The Downtown Women’s Club Pittsburgh will host their 2010 Luncheon from 12-1 p.m. at the Devonshire, 1050 McNeilly Rd., Mt. Lebanon. The guest speaker will be Dr. Aldino Pierotti of the Anti-Aging & Vitality Center of Pittsburgh. The cost is $10, which is inclusive. FEB. 3—Pittsburgh Young Professionals and Point Park University’s Career Development Services will host “Finding a Job: It’s A Like Dating Workshop” from 6:30-8 p.m. at Point Park University, 409 Lawrence Hall, 201 Wood St., Downtown. Interviewing, like dating, is often about first impressions and these initial interactions can make or break one’s chances of landing their dream job. Join PYP for an interactive seminar with Point Park’s Career Development Services, as they discuss the dos and don’ts of successful interviewing. FEB. 4—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown and Business Branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Get Organized NOW for a Stress-Free Tax Session!” Diana Smith, tax specialist for the Internal Revenue Service, will be the presenter and will explain the most effective ways to organize one’s important 2009 tax documents and discuss current updates from the IRS that can help them save time and money.
