Brown bag lunch

MARCH 10—Volunteers of American will host their Brown Bag Lunch and Disability Resource Breakfast from 12-1 p.m. at 1650 Main St., Sharpsburg. This is for new and existing business owners who are looking to expand their business. The topic is “Taking Emotions Out of Your Financial Decisions.” Lee Wagner of Waddell and Reed Financial Advisors, will discuss his personal mission to help people navigate the frustrating path to financial literacy and will motivate attendees to become educated and change their behavior in a positive manner. They will leave with a better understanding  of the financial planning needs of the average American. MARCH 11—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown and Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Home Buying Based in 2010: What You Need to Know.” Diane Scabilloni of Victorian Finance and Tracy Janov of Prudential Preferred Reality, will lead the discussion on how to find and qualify for the best loan to fit one’s personal financial and lifestyle goals, how to work with a Realtor to create and identify one’s home “wish list” and tips for finding property with the highest potential for appreciation. MARCH 11—Jessica Lee and Pittsburgh Gateway Corp. will host “Entrepreneurial Thursdays” from 5:30-8 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Downtown. This week’s theme is “Sport and Athlete Entrepreneurs.” This is a professional networking event with live jazz/ R&B music. There is a $10 cover charge with a full bar and dinner selections. Non-profit leadership training

MARCH 19—Duquesne University’s Nonprofit Leadership Institute will host “The Nonprofit Boarding School: Junior Year” from 8-11:30 a.m. at the university’s Rockwell Hall, Room 220, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. This is a training program that addresses the roles and responsibilities of non-profit board members. Network convention

MARCH 19—Talk Magazine will host the 2010 Pennsylvania African-American Network Convention at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 4751 Lindle Rd., Harrisburg. The convention will consist of wealth building and health care workshops, a reception honoring Pennsylvania’s African-American Mayors and more. The conference will run through March. 20.
