Jazz jam

CJ’s Restaurant & Lounge presents “The Roger Humphries & RH Factor Jazz Jam Session” at 8 p.m. at 2901-2911 Penn Ave., Strip District. There will be live jazz and fun every Thursday night. Smooth jazz

Club Duo presents Smooth Jazz Friday’s from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. at the Holiday Inn University Center, 100 Lytton Ave., Oakland. The smooth jazz featured entertainer will be Dwayne Dolphin and his piccolo bass band. DJ Sly Jock will play music for one’s dancing pleasure and Roland Ford will also get the evening started with line dancing. ‘The Wizard of Oz’

PNC Broadway Across America in Pittsburgh presents “The Wizard of Oz” at 8 p.m. at Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., Cultural District. Experience the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy, Toto, the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow in this lavish production, which features special effects, dazzling choreography and classic songs. Jazz fun-raiser

The Black Political Empowerment Project and the Pittsburgh Jazz Society present “B-PEP Jazz: A Musical Fun-Raiser” from 5:30-11:30 p.m. at Bridges in the Holiday Inn, Pittsburgh University Center, 100 Lytton Ave., Oakland. This is a six-hour jazz marathon featuring many of Pittsburgh’s best jazz musicians and vocalists. Tickets are $25 per person and $20 for senior citizens and students. Jazz appreciation series

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Department of Education Community Engagement and BNY Mellon Jazz presents the JazzLive National Jazz Appreciation Month Series “Groove Modern” at 8 p.m. at The Cabaret, 655 Penn Ave., Cultural District. The event is performance is co-hosted by AVA Lounge and will feature Soul Cycle, a Brooklyn, N.Y. band that brings a blend of jazz, funk, R&B, gospel, Latin, African sounds and more. West African art

Chatham University Art Gallery presents “Mother, Maker, Model: Women in West African Art” from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Woodland Hall, Woodland Rd., Shadyside. This art exhibit is in celebration of its Global Focus Year of West. Students selected artifacts from the university’s Olkes Collection of African Art, which includes over 600 works.
