Nomination deadline

APRIL 23 is the deadline for The New Pittsburgh Courier’s “50 Women of Excellence” Nominations at 5 p.m. This is your chance to select Pittsburgh’s powerbrokers in the church, arts, business, politics, non-profits, law, sports, philanthropy, health care, education and media. Nominations are welcome from individuals, businesses, professional/fraternal groups or neighborhood and community organizations. Ancestor series

The Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company presents “The Ancestor Series” at 8 p.m. at 542 Penn Ave., Cultural District. This is a trilogy of one act plays by Pittsburgh playwright P.J. Gibson. Each play is about a woman who is called to make a difficult decision and needs to call on her African ancestors for answers. The show will run through April 24. The Kuntu Repertory Theatre presents “The Electronic Negro” and “Sister Son/ji” at 8 p.m. at The University of Pittsburgh’s Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Ave., Oakland. “The Electronic Negro” is about a diverse group of students in a college classroom and one student who is determined to monopolize the discussion and the teacher that cannot stop him. “Sister Son/ji” is a one-woman show that gives insight into the growth and life of a woman involved in the Black Power Movement.
