Community conversation

APRIL 14—The Center for Inclusion in Health Care and the Supply Chain Management Department at UPMC will host their “Community Conversation: Supplier Diversity” from 3-5 p.m. at UPMC Herberman Conference Center, 5150 Centre Ave., Shadyside. The conference will address the state of minority business in the Pittsburgh region and the creation of a collaborative initiative to increase the utilization of these businesses. Special presentations include “The State of Minority Business” by Dr. Audrey Murrell and “Awakening the Region to Supplier Diversity and Inclusion.” Lynne Hayes-Freeland will be the event moderator. Enterprise session

APRIL 14—The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh will host their YW Enterprise Spring Business Session from 6-8 p.m. at 305 Wood St., Downtown. In the month of April workshops will focus on business finance. This week’s topic is “Business Credit Profiles-What the Banks Don’t Tell You.” The presenter will be Kathleen Gary of the Hill District Credit Union. APRIL 8—Jessica Lee and Pittsburgh Gateway Corp. will host “Entrepreneurial Thursdays” from 5:30.-8 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Downtown. This is a professional networking event with live jazz/R&B music. There is a $5 fee. Business casual is the attire. No jeans or tennis shoes. Business seminars

APRIL 15—The Small Business Development Center of the University of Pittsburgh and the Wilkinsburg Chamber of Commerce will host the “Defining and Capturing Your Customers” Seminar from 7:30-10 a.m. at Hosanna House, 807 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg. This is a business seminar designed to give individuals an edge on their target market and to discuss the methods to use to obtain them. There will also be a discussion on how to keep one’s business growing. The fee is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. For registration, call 412-242-0234.

PowerBreakfast

APRIL 16—The African-American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host their PowerBreakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown. The special guest speaker will be Rob Stephany, executive director of the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh and he’ll discuss the new projects that are planned and how chamber members can play a role through their procurement process. Legal discussion

APRIL 20—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania’s Business Institute will host a discussion on legal issues from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Regional Enterprise Tower, AE Hunt Room, 23rd floor, 425 Sixth Ave., Downtown. Individuals are invited to ask the experts questions on legal issues that small business owners are confronted with. Other topics will also be addressed.
