OUT OF BOUNDS…Holmes ‘not so sweet’ Holmes

In the not so recent past, I concluded that the Pittsburgh Steelers had double standards with regards to protecting certain players while leaving others hanging out to dry.

This past Sunday ESPN.com reported that “Receiver  Santonio Holmes was traded to the New York Jets from the Pittsburgh Steelers. [Holmes] will be suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy,” a source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The Steelers will reportedly be compensated with a fifth round draft pick in 2011. Wow, I am sure that a pro-bowler is waiting to emerge from the celebrated fifth round in next year’s draft.

The story also reported all-universe cover cornerback Darrelle Revis as saying, “Wow, we got Holmes. This is crazy. We makin’ big moves this off-season. Putting the pieces together to get closer to that Super Bowl ring.” According to ESPN.com, the comments were made on Revis’ Twitter page.

This is crazy. How in the hell do you trade one of your stars, a Super Bowl MVP, a game changer, a re-arranger of the future?

Well, you do it when you have a jellyfish leading your squad. It can be done when you have a head coach who has no backbone. “Knuckleheads Inc.,” Blogs Unlimited” or wherever the stuck on stupid asinine sports crowd is allowed to express their acid-laced opinions point out that Holmes would have allegedly been lost for the first four games of the 2010 season therefore not being any good for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now Pittsburgh won’t have his services and talent at all. And what if the Jets face the Steelers during the post-season? Well, Santonio will have a Brooklyn-sized chip on his shoulder and what DB in the Pittsburgh secondary besides Ike Taylor can man up against Holmes? It took the Steelers almost four years to replace their last field stretcher, Plaxico Burress. Who is going to replace Santonio Holmes? Will it be Limas Sweed, Mike Wallace or Antwaan Randle-El? When Pittsburgh is 6-10 in 2010, they will only have themselves to blame. Happy trails to you until we meet again.
