Speak Out: What is your reaction to selling and possible reopening of Crawford Grill?

A group of investors recently bought the Crawford Grill so we asked Pittsburghers what they thought. Here’s what you said:

“I didn’t even know that it was sold; it wasn’t advertised for everyone to know about it. But I do think it was a good move to sell it. It’s been in the community for such a long time. All the entertainment that you can imagine was there. Reopening it will be a benefit for the Hill.”

“I really didn’t want it to be sold but if it’s going to reopen like it was, I think its a good thing. The Hill District could use the elements of art and music that the Crawford Grill brought to the community.”

“I don’t think they should’ve sold it because it’s a historical landmark. A lot of legendary jazz musicians, poets and comedians came through there. I used to go and listen. It was nice. If it is to reopen as the old Crawford Grill, I think that it would be a good idea.”

“I think it’s fantastic that the Crawford Grill has been sold. Pittsburgh was always one of the biggest cities as far as jazz musicians. We need to continue and not let jazz die. I think it’s marvelous.”
John Arms

“I really didn’t go in there, I thought it was for older folks but?I heard that it was nice. It is a disappointment that it was closed in the first place but it could be nice again if it is reopened.”
Tina Martin

“The reopening has its advantages and disadvantages. It could be positive and benefit the community if the crowd that the new Crawford Grill reintroduces culture to the community. On the other hand, it could be a disadvantage if the crowd it attracts comes with a lot of drama.”
