Seniors celebration

MAY 5—Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato will host a Senior Celebration in the Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the South Park Fairgrounds, South Park. This celebration is part of Older Americans Month. The theme is “Live Strong! Live Long!” There will be free screenings, live entertainment, giveaways and more. Registration is requested. Human rights dinner

Meeting and luncheon

MAY 7—The Pittsburgh Community Services Inc. and the Community Action Agency for the city of Pittsburgh will host their Annual Meeting and Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Marriott City Center, 112 Washington Place, Uptown.  This is their annual fundraiser. Multicultural conference

MAY 7—Point Park University’s Project Children’s Learning Early to Appreciate Diversity will host their 5th Annual Multicultural Conference at the university’s Lawrence Hall Ballroom, 313 Blvd. of the Allies, Downtown. The conference will give educators and administrators a forum to explore new and innovative ways to improve multicultural education through interactive learning. Human rights banquet

Tea and fashion

MAY 8—Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will host the “2010 Top Hat A Salute to Mothers of Distinction: A Pink Carpet Affair, an Afternoon of High Tea and Fashion” at 10:30 a.m. at the LeMont Restaurant, 1114 Grandview Ave., Mt. Children’s fair

MAY 15—The Extra Mile Foundation of Pittsburgh will host a Children’s Health Fair from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Holy Rosary School, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. It is open to all students in grades 5-8 and there will be face painting, soul line dancing, hip-hop aerobics, workshops for parents and more. The event is free. Election protection training

MAY 15—The Black Empowerment Project will host their Election Protection Training at 12 p.m. at Freedom Unlimited, 2201 Wylie Ave., Hill District. The Election Protection program is part of a nationwide effort to ensure voters have an equal opportunity to participate in the political process. Volunteers will learn what signs to look for when it comes to voter discrimination and how to report it.
