Benefit reception

The Eleanor Friedberg Art Scholarship Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundation presents their 13th Annual Benefit Reception from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, 1815 Metropolitan St., Manchester. The reception raises funds for the scholarship that is awarded to graduation Pittsburgh public high school seniors. Along with the reception there will be an All City Arts Showcase presentation, a silent auction and more. The art presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75. ‘Jitney’

The Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company presents August Wilson’s “Jitney” at 8 p.m. at 542 Penn Ave., Cultural District. The play, directed by Mark Clayton Southers, is the seventh in Wilson’s 10-play cycle and features Sala Udin and an all-star cast. ‘Beauty Shop’

The August Wilson Center for African American Culture presents “Beauty Shop” at 8 p.m. at 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. The stage play by Shelly Garrett continues the story of the beauty shop—as the curling irons get hotter, the gossip is juicier and the backstabbing is deeper. Art exhibit

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and the Wood Street Galleries presents “Dark & Shiny Night” from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at 707 Penn Gallery, 707 Penn Ave., Cultural District. Robert Raczka’s exhibit “dark & shiny night” is a series of large photographs depicting the surreal beauty of the human-made world at night. The images connect a broad range of subjects from the enticements of advertising displays to nature cultivated as landscaping. The exhibit will run through June 13.
