Children’s fair

MAY 15—The Extra Mile Foundation of Pittsburgh will host a Children’s Health Fair from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Holy Rosary School, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. It is open to all students in grades 5-8 and there will be face painting, soul line dancing, hip-hop aerobics, workshops for parents and more. The event is free. Family day

MAY 15—The Birmingham Foundation will hold its Family Day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at McKinley Park, Delmont Avenue, South Hills. Families and residents of South Pittsburgh are invited to this event that will feature various organizations the foundation supports. Parents will be given the opportunity to sign their kids up for summer and school-year programs. There will also be free bike repairs and helmets given to kids. Election protection training

MAY 15—The Black Empowerment Project will host their Election Protection Training at 12 p.m. at Freedom Unlimited, 2201 Wylie Ave., Hill District. The Election Protection program is part of a nationwide effort to ensure that voters have an equal opportunity to participate in the political process. Volunteers will learn what signs to look for when it comes to voter discrimination and how to report it. Tennis workshop

MAY 15—The United States Tennis Association will host an Official Training Workshop from 1-4 p.m. at the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Center, 128 Meadows St., Manchester. This workshop is for individuals interested in becoming a USTA official, referee or linesperson. Individuals must be 17 or older. Home buying workshop

MAY 17—Dollar Bank and the Pittsburgh Housing Development Association Inc. will host a Workshop for First Time Home Buyers at 6 p.m. at the Wilkinsburg Borough Building, 2nd floor, 605 Ross Ave., Wilkinsburg. Individuals will learn what it takes to buy a home and there will be counselors on hand to help consumers, credit repair, how to secure grant money for closing costs, free credit report and low interest mortgage options. Westinghouse pageant

MAY 21—Pittsburgh Westinghouse High School will host their 2010 Miss Westinghouse Pageant “Classique and Magnifique” at 6 p.m. at the school’s auditorium, 1101 N. Murtland Ave., Homewood. MAY 21—The Neighborhood Academy Class of 2010 will host the 6th Annual Faces of The Future Benefit at p.m. at American Eagle Outfitters, 77 Hot Metal St., South Side. Fundraiser walk

MAY 22—Highmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield will host their 8th Annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community Fundraiser at 9 a.m. at Schenley Park, Oakland. The event supports 59 health and human service agencies within western Pennsylvania and encourages individuals to become active and adopt regular exercise routines. Smoking cessation classes

MAY 24—The Stop Smoking Program Department of UPMC Passavant will host a Smoking Cessation Program from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Dining Room #2, 9100 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh. This is the first of a six-week program to help individuals stop smoking. Facilitators will discuss preparation for quitting, the benefits of quitting, relapse prevention and more. Leadership summit

MAY 28—The African American Leadership Association and UPMC’s Center for Inclusion will host the 2nd Annual African American Leadership Summit from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Herberman Conference Center, 5230 Centre Ave., Shadyside. The theme is “Success in Leadership.” The summit will consist of various speakers, facilitators, panelists and the keynote speaker Jay Williams, the Mayor of Youngstown, Ohio. There will also be a leadership development series certificate presentation award ceremony. Registration is required and the cost is $50.
