MAY 27—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Get Your Portfolio on Track in 2010 and Beyond.” Robert Fragasso, chairman and CEO of Fragasso Financial Advisors, will discuss the necessary investments to build a strong financial future—how to prepare for retirement and not outlive one’s money, the effects of inflation and how creating a balanced and allocated portfolio can reduce the risk. Awards luncheon

MAY 28—The Western Pennsylvania Small Business Administration Network will host their Awards Luncheon from 12-1:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel, 300 West Station Square, Station Square. The awards will be held in conjunction with the annual celebration of National Business Week. The keynote speaker will be local golf champion Carol Semple Thompson. Tickets are $45, $55 after May 14. Mastering change

JUNE 1—Duquesne University will host “Extraordinary Leadership: Mastering Change in Today’s Economy” from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Rockwell Hall, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. Lois Bradley of Du­quesne University will lead participants in a discussion on how the economy has changed the rules of the workplace and how to understand the stages of change and how to manage them. Bookkeeping basics

JUNE 4—The Small Business Development Center of the University of Pittsburgh will host “Getting Your Finances in Order: Bookkeeping Basics” from 7:30-10 a.m. at Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Drive, Oakland. Attendees will learn everything from bookkeeping terminology and basic internal controls to the financial dos and don’ts. There will be live examples of how to keep track of one’s finances using a spreadsheet bookkeeping system. Reservations are required and the cost is $25. Government procurement

JUNE 9—The Small Business Development Center of Saint Vincent College will host “Grow Your Business Through Government Procurement” from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 300 Fraser Purchase Rd., Latrobe. This free half-day seminar will give participants the opportunity to hear from government agencies and prime contractors on how to do business with their organizations. Diversity and inclusion plan

JUNE 9—The Western Pennsylvania Diversity Initiative will host their Symposium Implementing a Diversity and Inclusion Plan from 2-4 p.m. at Ciopinno, 2350 Railroad St., Strip District. The presenter will be Jay Lubowitz from Duquesne University. He will introduce the Taylor Cox model of implementing a diversity plan in an organization. There will also be a networking reception from 4-5:30 p.m. The cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Registration is required.
