JUNE 3—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Thinking About Starting Your Own Business? Realities and Advice for the New Entrepreneur.” Joyce Pearl of SCORE Counselors to America’s Small Businesses will discuss the forms needed to start a business in Pennsylvania, where to look for outside financing, the reasons for a written business plan and answers to frequently asked questions before beginning a new business venture. Bookkeeping basics

JUNE 4—The Small Business Development Center of the University of Pittsburgh will host “Getting Your Finances in Order: Bookkeeping Basics” from 7:30-10 a.m. at Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Dr., Oakland. Attendees will learn everything from bookkeeping terminology and basic internal controls to the financial dos and don’ts. There will be live examples of how to keep track of one’s finances using a spreadsheet bookkeeping system. Reservations are required and the cost is $25. Government procurement

JUNE 9—The Small Business Development Center of Saint Vincent College will host “Grow Your Business Through Government Procurement” from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 300 Fraser Purchase Rd., Latrobe. This free half-day seminar will give participants the opportunity to hear from government agencies and prime contractors on how to do business with their organizations. Diversity and inclusion plan

JUNE 9—The Western Pennsylvania Diversity Initiative will host their Symposium Implementing a Diversity and Inclusion Plan from 2-4 p.m. at Ciopinno, 2350 Railroad St., Strip District. The presenter will be Jay Lubowitz from Duquesne University. He will introduce the Taylor Cox model of implementing a diversity plan in an organization. There will also be a networking reception from 4-5:30 p.m. The cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Registration is required. Understanding women power
