Career fair

JUNE 9—The Career & Workforce Development Center will host its 20th Annual Community Career Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Homewood-Brushton YMCA, 7140 Bennett St., Homewood. Health event

JUNE 12—Gateway Medical Society and the Pittsburgh NAACP will host a “Gateway to Wellness” from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Herberman Conference Center, Centre Ave., Shadyside. The free health event is geared towards African Americans and includes free health screenings, workshops and a panel discussion from motivational health experts. Reservations are required by June 7. Book sale

JUNE 12—The Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society of the Pennsylvania Department of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host a Social and Book Sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Foyer of the Lecture Hall of the Library, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland. There will be a sale of gently used books on a variety of topics. Only cash will be accepted. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 412-622-3154.

Senior prom

JUNE 13—Gateway Medical Society, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. of the Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter and Metropolitan Outreach Ministry Services Inc. will host the 6th Annual Senior Citizen Prom from 5-10 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel Greentree, 101 Radisson Dr., Greentree. The theme is “The Art of Aging Seniors Bridging the Gap of Healthcare Disparities.” Enjoy an evening of vendors, food and beverages, a silent auction, healthy aging games and more. Golf benefit

JUNE 14—The Passavant Hospital Foundation will host their 23rd Annual Pro-Am Invitational Golf Benefit at 7:30 a.m. at Wildwood Golf Club, 2195 Sample Rd., Allison Park. There will be a morning pro-am golf tournament and an afternoon golf scramble. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m. There will also be a reception at the end of the day. Homebuyer’s workshop

JUNE 19—The Mon Valley Initiative will host a Pre-Purchase Housing Workshop from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 305 East 8th Ave., Homestead. This workshop will promote homeownership in the Mon Valley through presentations made by mortgage lending and real estate professionals. The presentations will give information about lending products for low-to-moderate income first-time homebuyers that include a down payment and closing cost assistance. Scholarship luncheon

JUNE 19—The Dr. Edna M. Brown Scholarship Committee will host a Scholarship Luncheon from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the California University of Pennsylvania Performance Center of the Elmo Natali Student Center, 250 University Ave., California. The luncheon will honor an African-American high school student senior with a scholarship toward college. Day of solidarity

JUNE 19—The Community Empowerment Association’s African American Leadership Institute will host a Day of Black Male Solidarity Community Forum from 12-4 p.m. at Schenley High School, 129 Denniston St., East Liberty. The theme is “INDABA: Gathering of the Community.”  The event will address the alarming plight of African-Americans males in the region’s largest school district, Pittsburgh Public Schools, and will include a panel discussion on “The Education of African American Males in Pittsburgh: Saving Our Sons, Broadening the Dialogue.” Registration is requested by May 28. Juneteenth celebration

JUNE 19—The Sewickley Community Center will host a Juneteenth Celebration at 9 a.m. at 15 Chadwick St., Sewickley. Youth of all ages are welcomed to participate in the 3-on-3-basketball tournament, which is part of the celebration. Registration is required by June 1 and the cost is $15.
