JUNE 23—Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship and Meyer Unkovic & Scott, LLP, will host the Business & Law Seminar from 8-9:30 a.m. at the University, Woodland Rd., Shadyside. The topic is “Protecting Your Intellectual Property: Why Can’t I Use That Name? I Came Up With It First!” Beth Slagle and Peter Borghetti will give an overview of intellectual property, what can and cannot be protected and can and cannot be used when other’s used it first. JUNE 23—The Namm Business Center of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host “Make Your Resume Talk and Say: ‘Interview Me.’ Connect Your Resume to the Job You Really Want” from 10:15-11 a.m. Resume consultant and author Ron Hart will give one-on-one resume and cover letter assistance in this 45-minute session. JUNE 24—Jessica Lee and Pittsburgh Gateway Corp. will host “Entrepreneurial Thursdays” from 5:30-8 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Downtown. The theme is “Women Entrepreneurs.” This is a professional networking event with live jazz/R&B music. There is a $5 fee. Business casual is the attire. No jeans or tennis shoes. Powerful presenting

JUNE 25—Step 1 Management will host Powerful Presenting for Non-Professional Speakers from 9-11 a.m. at the Step 1 Management Training Center, Foster Plaza 6, 681 Anderson Dr., Suite 235, West End. Jeff Cantar, professional speaker and presentation coach, will teach how to construct and deliver a powerful speech, handle stage fright, build better PowerPoint presentations and improve one’s credibility as a subject matter expert. JUNE 26—SCORE will host their Small Business Basics workshop from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at DeVry University, 210 Sixth Ave., Downtown. This highly interactive workshop is geared to aspiring and existing small business entrepreneurs. Business professionals cover the topics of small business planning, recordkeeping, taxes, financing, marketing and business loans. The cost is $45 and registration is requested. empowerment series

JULY 7—The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh will host a Financial Empowerment Series from 6:30-8 p.m. at the YWCA Homewood-Brushton, 6907 Frankstown Rd., Homewood. Every Wednesday, the four session series, will teach individuals how to create a successful strategy to improve one’s overall financial situation. The sessions will be focused on budgeting, using banks and credit unions, understanding credit/credit repair and saving/investing. The series will run through July 28 and a free copy of one’s credit report and free child care will be provided. Registration is required and the cost is $20 per person. Business series

JULY 8—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown and Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “An Introduction to the August Wilson Center for African American Culture.” Shay Wafer, president of programs for the center, will discuss their ideas of being a showcase for dance, music, art and theater presentations, along with its educational and public program offerings.
