Looking for information

City of Pittsburgh police are looking for information on the person or persons responsible for a shooting early Tuesday morning. Authorities reportedly responded to call where an unidentified 19-year-old male from the Hill District was reportedly shot in the 2400 block of Chauncey Drive and ran to the 2300 block of Bedford Avenue for help. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the upper chest and the buttocks. His name has not been released and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 412-323-7161.

Drug discounts

Prescription discount cards will now be available at various locations throughout Allegheny County and on the Internet that will help consumers cope with high prescription prices, through a program by the National Association of Counties. The cards will save individuals an average of 22 percent off retail prices of most commonly prescribed drugs.“ Allegheny County is proud to offer the NACo prescription discount card to our residents,” Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato said in a press release. “The card offers significant savings for the uninsured and underinsured residents of our county. Even those fortunate enough to have health care coverage can use the card to save money on medications that are not covered by their health plans. Best of all, there is no cost to taxpayers for NACo and Allegheny County to make these money-saving cards available to our residents.” Residents of all ages, income levels and health coverage status are eligible for this card, which can be used at more than 300 pharmacies in the county. The discount cards can be found at all county government offices, housing authority communities, CareerLinks offices, Goodwill stores, public libraries, senior citizens centers, by calling or by downloading the card from the Internet. Send kids to camp

Two local organizations have partnered for the “Send Kids to Camp” fundraiser, which is working to send 100 underprivileged youths to camp for one week. The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and Eat ’n Park are working to send Pittsburgh inner city youths ages 7-12, to the YMCA’s Camp Kon-O-Kwee, for a week in August, where they will learn about health and wellness through education and activities. “There is no other thing that we do at the YMCA that reveals our mission of bringing hope to children more than sending them to camp,” Eric K. Mann, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh said in a release. From now until July 2, Eat ’n Park will match each online donation made at www. Eatnpark.com, for up to $10,000. Free summer meals

Free summer meals are now available for children and disabled adults until Aug. 20 at various locations throughout the city of Pittsburgh. The program will serve disabled adults 21 years and younger, and other residents 18 years and younger. To find out locations, visit www.citiparks.net.

Gas grant

Peoples Natural Gas will distribute $360,000 to low income families and individuals struggling to pay their energy bills through the Dollar Energy Fund. This is the first of several payments to be made over a three-year period, totaling a $1.9 million, which was approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to help families.

Cast your vote

Votes are now being taken for the No Kid Hungry Innovation Award, through the anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength, which works to ensure that no kid in America grows up hungry. Local nonprofit organization, Just Harvest is one of five finalists in the running in the Nourishing Communities category for a $25,000 grant to eliminate hunger. Just Harvest is asking individuals to vote once every day until July 1. Just Harvest has proposed decreasing childhood hunger through Summer Food Service Programs, which are afterschool programs that provide food in the summer.
