Celebrity basketball event
JULY 3—B. Marshall and the Community Empowerment Association will host the DeJuan Blair and LaMarr Woodley Independence’s Day Celebrity Basketball Extravaganza event at 12 p.m. at the Peterson Event Center, 3719 Terrace St., Oakland. The event will showcase four games, which includes City High School stars vs. WPIAL stars, media and former pro and semi-pro players. Blair and Woodley will be coaching teams in the final game. Old school picnic
JULY 3—Ed will host the 6th Annual “Old School Get Together” from 1-9 p.m. at Mellon Park, Fifth and Penn Avenue, Point Breeze. Individuals and families are welcome to attend this alcohol free party to enjoy oldies music, good food and fellowship. Must bring own picnic basket, blankets and lawn chairs. Dance class
JULY 10—Roland Ford will host a Saturday Soul Line Dance Class and Detroit Ballroom Practice from 12-4 p.m. at the Wilkins School Community Center, 7604 Charleston Ave., Braddock. The class will give individuals an opportunity to review some of the popular dances of 2009, get good exercise and have fun. Wear comfortable clothes and bring water. Brainstorming
