Hilarious comedian Godfrey drew on his personal experience of growing up with Nigerian parents, living in The Big Apple, and eating at various ethnic restaurants to make Pittsburgh audiences laugh during a recent three-night run at the Improv June 24-27.
The 41-year-old comedian, whose real name is Godfrey C. Danchimah Jr., kept the audience in stitches with his impressions of Denzel Washington, Bill Cosby and President Obama.

“My Black friends in America don’t believe me. I said, ‘Dude, I’m Nigerian-American. Word? We thought you were, like, regular Black. What is regular Black? Is Crayola coming out with colors I don’t know about?” Godfrey joked to a very receptive audience.
Godfrey started tickling the funny bone of the masses portraying himself in the Ben Stiller cult hit, “Zoolander.”
Following that, he has been seen in several movies including “Johnson Family Vacation,” “Soul Plane,” “The Cookout” and “Phat Girlz.”
Although he has had parts in movies, Godfrey may be best known as the “7 UP Guy” in the beverage’s national ad campaign.
That gig led Godfrey landing his comedic specials on BET’s “Comicview” and “Comedy Central.”
Godfrey’s parents fled Nigeria to escape the Nigerian civil war. The comedian was born in Nebraska a short while after his parents arrived in the United States, but he was raised in Chicago.
Audiences who weren’t fortunate enough to see Godfrey at the Pittsburgh Improv can see him yuck it up in the yet-to-be released movie, “A Man, A Woman and a Genie,” a comedy about a man and woman who have a gun and run into a genie.
The comedy was written and directed by Chuks Nwanesi.
Sadly Godfrey’s performances in the ’Burgh were not sold out.
Many people in the Pittsburgh area missed a great show put on by a brilliant comedian.
