Pittsburgh Fashion Week stages model search

As anticipation builds for the first-ever Pittsburgh Fashion Week Sept. 27 through Oct. 3, organizers are staging an open model call on Aug. 7 at The Mall at Robinson.

The model search, expected to be the largest in the city’s history, is for men and women of all sizes at least 16 years of age. Hopefuls under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Pittsburgh Fashion Week will consist of seven days of runway shows and related events that require models, including an opening night extravaganza, a runway presentation starring international designer Zang Toi and his spring 2011 collection, a “PINK!” runway show benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and other shows and events including but not limited to menswear, petites and pluses, CCO-chic and as many as 150 local designers and retailers. Models are needed for all shows.

Those interested in modeling should attend this open call, which will begin promptly at 11:30 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m., immediately followed by a back-to-school runway fashion show presented by the mall. Registration for the fashion week model search will begin at 10 a.m. inside the mall.

Pittsburgh Fashion Week founder and executive director Miyoshi Anderson recently was named one of 50 Women of Excellence for 2010 by the New Pittsburgh Courier. Pittsburgh Fashion Week is sponsored by The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, media marquee sponsor FANFARE/Trib Total Media, and Pandora at Ross Park Mall.
