AUG. 12—UPMC St. Margaret Hospital will host the American Heart Association’s “Heart of a Champion” fund-raising event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Freeport Rd., Fox Chapel. There will be opportunities to take pictures with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins championship rings. All proceeds will go toward the association’s 2010 Pittsburgh Start! Heart Walk Oct. 10. Tennis clinic
AUG. 14—The United States Tennis Association Allegheny Mountain District will host a Tennis Clinic and Coaches Workshop from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Schenley Park, Oakland. The workshop is to help teenagers in middle and high schools become better tennis players by providing professional training instructions by USTPA Professional Tom Sweltzer. Heritage weekend
AUG. 20—The Pittsburgh Pirates will host their Heritage Weekend Celebration. The celebration will feature a tribute to the Negro Leagues and players from the Homestead Grays and the Pittsburgh Crawfords. AUG. 21—Alpha and Omega Wheels will host their Summer Madness Car & Fashion Show from 4-9 p.m. at Highland Park. There will be numerous vendors, a car show competition and car show classes. AUG. 27—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Children, Youth and Families will host their 12th Annual Family United Celebration from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Schenley Park Ice Skating Rink, Oakland. The theme is “Healthy Lives, Healthy Families” and is free and open to all families in Allegheny County. There will be music, pony rides, entertainment, obstacle courses and more. SEPT. 1—The Citizen’s Police Academy will host the Pittsburgh Police Training Academy from 6-9 p.m. at 1395 Washington Blvd., East Liberty. Every Wednesday, for 15 weeks individuals will learn what is needed to become a police officer.
