AUG. 18—TiE Pittsburgh will host “Women Who Lead Us On: Top Female Entrepreneurs Who Are Venturing Into the Newest Technologies” from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Offices of Buchanan Ingersoll and Rooney, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., 20th floor, Downtown. The event will discuss the types of new technology companies that women are running, how the region measures up, funding and more. There will also be a panel discussion and a networking opportunity. AUG. 19—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown and Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Better Business Writing: The Key to Effective Email.” Alison Conte, assistant director for Web Communications & Marketing at Duquesne University, will lead the session. Attendees will learn how to effectively communicate your messages and avoid casually written e-mails that can cause confusion, create misunderstandings and hinder operations. Professional networking
AUG. 19—Jessica Lee and Pittsburgh Gateway Corp. will host “Entrepreneurial Thursdays” from 5:30-8 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Downtown. The theme is “Young Entrepreneurs.” This is a professional networking event with live jazz/R&B music. There is a $5 fee. Business casual is the attire. No jeans or tennis shoes. Small business training
AUG. 24—The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh will host an Orientation for its Business Feasibility Fall Classes at 6 p.m. at 305 Wood St., Downtown. This is part of their small business startup training. This is a 36-hour program offered in cooperation with Community College of Allegheny County and designed for women who want to start a microenterprise. There is also an orientation Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. Classes begin at CCAC Sept. 14 and Sept. 15 at the YWCA. The cost is $225 and includes program materials. For more information, call 412-255-6749.
Certification and contracting
AUG. 25—U.S. Small Business Administration will host an 8(a) and HUBZone Certification & Contracting Workshop from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Riverside Center for Innovation, 700 River Ave., 1st floor Conference Room, North Side. Accounting for gov’t contracts
AUG. 26—The Government Contracting Assistance Center will host “Accounting for Government Contracts” from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Regional Learning Alliance, 850 Cranberry Woods Dr., Cranberry. Seminar attendees will learn about special accounting regulations, standards and requirements for government contracts. It is free and registration is requested by Aug. 24. Networking mixer
AUG. 26—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania and the Urban Lending Solutions will host a Special Networking Mixer Meeting from 5-7 p.m. at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel, 107 Sixth St., Downtown. The theme is “Bringing to You Round Three: A Time to Get Connected.” There will be an informational reception and business card exchange; attendees should bring plenty of cards.
