Food and wine tasting
SEPT. 16—The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host the 2010 Waterfront Food & Wine Tasting from 5-9 p.m. at the Waterfront, Homestead. This is an evening of wine tasting, restaurant sampling and fun. There will be 18 tents. The cost is $15 or a bag of non-perishable foods and receive a discount. Women of Spirit
SEPT. 16—Carlow University and the Carlow Women of Spirit Institute will host the 2010 Women of Spirit Awards at 7:30 p.m. at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. Home workshop
SEPT. 18—The Mon Valley Initiative will host their Pre-Purchase Housing Workshop from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 305 East 8th St., Homestead. Participants who complete the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development curriculum will receive a certificate, which is required to obtain community development mortgage loans from local lenders. Gridiron gaming
SEPT. 20—Max Starks and other Pittsburgh Steelers will host the 2nd Annual Gridiron Gaming from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the East Club Lounge of Heinz Field, North Shore. Guests will have a chance to challenge their favorite football stars in virtual games used in rehabilitation at UPMC. There will also be a VIP reception at 6 p.m.
Anniversary celebration
SEPT. 23—The Schenley Heights Community Development Program will host its 15th Anniversary Celebration at 6 p.m. at the Twentieth Century Club, Bigelow Blvd., Oakland. The theme is “Celebrating 15 Years of Hope.” The mistress of ceremonies will be Lynne Hayes-Freeland of KDKA and the speaker will be Robert Hill of the University of Pittsburgh.
