On Sept. 4, the concert tour of “The Distant Relatives” hit the humble stage of Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale.
Nas and Damien Marley, son of the late Bob Marley, brought their unique combination of hip-hop and reggae to the fans of Pittsburgh. Their tour had already taken them from coast to coast and beyond, with several stops made in Europe.

With their message of the connection of all people to Africa, the two musical masters rhymed about the upliftment of the continent along with the invaluable contributions it has made to the world. Faithful fans held up lighters and swayed them to the command of Marley as he sang, “Africa Must Wake Up.” Before they left the building, Nas and Marley reemerged on stage with their band, singers/dancers, and flag waver to the crowd’s eager chants of “encore.”
The two-hour performance ended after midnight and ‘The Distant Relatives’ tour bus rolled out from the quiet streets of Millvale. The entire family will be coming to Pittsburgh Sept. 23 at the Benedum Center in a “Live Forever: A Once In A Lifetime Dream Concert” in what they are calling a Bob Marley celebration, 30 years later. On stage will be Stephen Marley, Julian Marley, Damian Marley and Cedella Marley with special guests The Original I-3’s, Rita Marley and Marcia Griffiths with the Marley Girls performing backup.
