Heroes breakfast
SEPT. 30—The American Red Cross will host the Second Annual Heroes Breakfast from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown. Heritage parade
OCT. 2—The African American Chamber of Commerce, Sen. Wayne Fontana and others will host the African American Heritage Day Parade at 11 a.m. at Mellon Arena, 66 Mario Lemieux Place, Uptown. Rain or shine, the parade will go from Mellon Arena to the August Wilson Center. There are performances, guided tours, activities for children and historical documentaries. March in Washington
OCT. 2—The NAACP and labor unions will host a March in Washington, D.C. The theme is “One Nation Working Together.” It is a multiracial, civil and human rights movement whose mission is to reorder our nation’s priorities to invest in our most valuable resource—our people. OCT. 4—Carlow University’s Grace Ann Geibel Institute for Justice and Social Responsibility will host “Until Justice Rolls Down Like Waters: Reflections on Race and the Civil Rights Movement from 3:30-5:45 p.m. at the University’s Kresge Theatre, 5th Floor, Grace Library, Shadyside. The event will offer video clips and personal reflections from Carlow’s Roots of the Civil Rights Movement Summer 2010 Tour. It will be followed by an open discussion.
