Guest speaker

OCT. 15—The La Roche College Literary Society will host their meeting with guest speaker Dr. Vernell Lillie at 8 p.m. at the college’s Zappala College Center, Ryan Room, 9000 Babcock Blvd., McCandless. Lillie is the co-founder of Kuntu Repertory Theatre and will discuss the life and work of playwright, poet, teacher and activisit Robert Lee Penny. The event is free and open to the public. Women’s walk

OCT. 16—The Northside Coalition for Fair Housing will host the 3rd Annual Women’s Walk for a Peaceful Community from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Limbaugh Center, 861 Tripoli St., North Side. This is a 2-mile walk that will conclude at Manchester Playground, where local and national speakers will address the Peace Council discussions. Fall festival

OCT. 16—The Dignity and Respect Campaign will host their Inaugural Fall Festival from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Schenley Plaza, Oakland. The festival is a bridge between all ages, cultures and backgrounds expressed through food, music and fun. The festival will feature UMOJA, a local African arts company. Healing journey

OCT. 16—The West Penn Allegheny Oncology Network will host their 7th Annual Healing Journey from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Four Points Sheraton North, 910 Sheraton Dr., Cranberry. This is a half-day of inspiration, information, support and celebration for cancer survivors. The keynote speaker will be Dave Balch, an author and husband who cared for his wife during four bouts with breast cancer. Registration is requested because seating is limited. Fitness expo

OCT. 16—The Ultimate Beauty Spa will host their Fitness Expo with Nathaniel Duck from 4-7 p.m. at 2015 Murray Ave., Squirrel Hill. This is part of a celebration of the spa’s 10th anniversary and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Duck is a personal trainer and athletic director for Hosanna House Inc. There will be exercise demonstrations that consist of stretching and rhythmic calisthenics. Everyone is welcome. The cost is $5 and the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Hill of hope

OCT. 16—The YMCA Centre Avenue Y will host the 3rd Annual Centre Avenue Y Hill of Hope Gala from 6-10 p.m. at the August Wilson Center, 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. OCT. 16—The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives Pittsburgh Chapter will host the 10th Annual Awards and Scholarship Banquet at 6 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel, 101 Mall Blvd., Monroeville.
