Woman symposium

NOV. 6—The Softer Side Seminars Inc. will host the 3rd Annual Woman to Woman Empowerment Symposium from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Blakey Program Center, 1908 Wylie Ave., Hill District. The theme is “Streaming Self Esteem from One Woman to the Other.” There will be workshops, music, prizes, entertainment, meals and pampering. The cost is $20 and registration is required. Youth summit

NOV. 6—Lighthouse Cathedral and the South Pittsburgh Coalition for Peace will host the “Dare to Dream” Youth Summit from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 810 Fisher St., Mt. Oliver. There will be a march through Mt. Oliver, Beltzhoover, Allentown and Knoxville. Marchers are asked to wear comfortable shoes and career costumes/dress that demonstrate what they aspire to become. Media awards

NOV. 6—The Women and Girls Foundation will host the Women in Media Awards from 6-9 p.m. at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. This event celebrates 14 women in Southwestern Pennsylvania who have paved the way for innovation in the fields of print, television, film, radio, mixed media and the Internet. Job fair

NOV. 9—The East End Works will host a Job Fair from 3:30-6 p.m. at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 250 N. Highland Ave., East Liberty. More than 75 employers from various career fields will be in attendance looking for new hires. For more information, call 412-362-8580.

NAACP elections

NOV. 9—The Pittsburgh NAACP will host their Election from 12-7 p.m. at the Hill House Association, 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District. The election is for NAACP officers and Executive Board Members. For more information, call 412-471-1024.

Collaborate luncheon

NOV. 12—The Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation will host the Collaborate Luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, 4215 Fifth Ave., Oakland. The luncheon is in recognition of the growing collaboration among Pittsburgh’s East End organizations toward the goal of neighborhood revitalization. The keynote speaker will be Grant Oliphant, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Foundation and there will also be a presentation of the Distinguished Public Service Award to Mary Lou Tenenbaum. Town Hall Meeting

NOV. 12—The American Urban Radio Networks and the August Wilson Center for African American Culture will host “The Disappearing Black Community and How We Get it Back” Town Hall Meeting with Bev Smith from 7-10 p.m. at 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. This is the first of a four part series of a live radio broadcast. Other guests include Dr. Claud Anderson, George Curry, Dr. Ron Daniels and Rev. Lennox Yearwood. Basketball clinic

NOV. 13—The Kenny Durrett Youth Organization will host a Youth Basketball Clinic from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Peabody High School, 515 N. Highland Ave., East Liberty. The clinic is for boys and girls ages 7 to 13. It is free and registration is required. For more information, call 412-583-8998.

Founders celebration

NOV. 14—Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority will host their Founders Celebration at 4 p.m. at Del’s Restorante, 4428 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh. Elder Milton Raiford, SponsorChange.org and the Wilkinsburg Boys and Girls Club will be honored for their work in the community.
