“I think it’s a shame that we have so many people dying in our city from nonsense that is happening. I feel we can prevent more deaths in the future by going back to being that village that raises the children and look out for our children as a community.”
Raquel Howze
North Side
Cashier

“I was not paying attention to the homicide rate last year but I am devastated to hear it is so high, I think we should increase the employment rate then people will be too busy to commit crimes.
Larenzo Freeman
Homewood
Highschool Student

“Even though it is on a decline it is very sad. And I feel if there were more job opportunities, which are arising now that we have the Console Energy Center and the casino, it would give people ambition to do something with their lives.”
Kathleen Woods
East Liberty
Administrative Assistant

“I wasn’t paying attention to the homicide rate this year but I am shocked it is that high. I think we should spend more money on protection services like police, detectives and stuff like that.”
Shawn Lamar Wilson
Beechview
Fashion Designer

“It was already scary cause I didn’t know the number of homicides, but even more so now you put 100 homicides in 2010. Its already hard living in the neighborhood I live in now thinking of how many murders were there. No jobs or education are just excuses, there are jobs out there and education is available, people are just ignorant.”
Alishia Knight
Hill District
Retail Clerk

“I feel it’s horrible to hear 100 people were murdered last year and something needs to be done to stop it. I think they need better police protection in the urban communities to stop the increase in homicides.”
