Brown Bag Lunch

FEB. 9—The Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania will host their Brown Bag Lunch series from 12-1 p.m. at 1650 Main St., Sharpsburg. The topic will be “No Pressure Selling.” Scot Teachout of Peak Performance Management will discuss how to build successful sales cultures in one’s business, how to handle loss opportunities, slipping margins, market share and more. FEB. 10—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15 at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic is “Federal Tax Credits-Which Ones Can You Claim?” Tax Specialist from the IRS, Patrick Price will discuss the federal tax credits and the rules and regulations for each. First step

FEB. 11—The University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center and the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence will host “The First Step: Developing a Business Plan” from 7:30-10 a.m. at Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Dr., Oakland. This is for individuals starting a small business and looking to learn about business structures, helpful resources and understanding the forms that will allow one to establish their business. Small business workshop

FEB. 12—SCORE will host the Small Business Workshop from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the PNC YMCA, 2nd floor, 236 Fifth Ave., Downtown. This is an interactive workshop geared toward aspiring and existing small business entrepreneurs. Professionals will discuss topics, such as, small business planning, record keeping, taxes, financing, marketing and more. Business training

FEB. 15—YW Enterprising Women Microenterprise Ownership Certificate Program will host their Spring 2011 Business Startup Training with a Business Feasibility Program from 6-9 p.m. at the North Shore Campus of CCAC, 800 Allegheny Ave., North Shore. This class will run every Tuesday until May 3, 2011. This is a 12 week, 36 hour step-by-step program designed for women who want to start a small business and do not know where to begin. There will also be a class every Wednesday from Feb. 16-May 4 from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, 305 Wood St., Downtown. Upgrade selling results

FEB. 16—Peak Performance Management and Sandler Training will host Upgrade Selling Results By Upgrading Yourself from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Duquesne Club, 325 Sixth Ave., Downtown. FEB. 23—The Western Pennsylvania Diversity Initiative will host Bridging the Cross-Cultural Communication Gap in the Multicultural Workplace from 8:30-11 a.m. at the City-County Building, Room 920, 414 Grant St., Downtown. This is an interactive, participative workshop that will provide guidelines and information on how to communicate more clearly, efficiently and considerately with people from other cultures.
