Interview skills

MARCH 17—The Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania will host their Disability Resource Breakfast from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at1650 Main St., Pittsburgh. The topic for the workshop is “How to Sell Your Abilities in A job Interview.” Coralee A. Gionta will discuss how to develop a better understanding of best practices that persons with or without disabilities should use during their job search. She will teach how to complete applications, build a resume, plan for interviews, dress for the position and focus on the abilities that will one to get a job. MARCH 18—The University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center Institute for Entrepreneurial Experience will host “The Second Step: Developing a Business Plan” from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at Mervis Hall, Roberto Clementai Dr., Oakland. Attendees will learn all they need to know about operational and production planning, conducting market research and creating financial spreadsheets to attract funding to one’s business. Business basics

MARCH 19—SCORE Pittsburgh will host a Small Business Basics Workshop at 8:30 a.m. at DeVry University, 210 Sixth Ave., Downtown. This workshop is presented by working professionals and helps new businesses get off to the right start by studying the legal requirements of starting a business and covering key topics that will impact the success or failure of the business. There will be discussions on marketing, record keeping, taxes, business plans development and how to obtain a small business loan. Registration is requested and the cost is $45. Career fair

MARCH 21—Glade Run Lutheran Services and the Western Pennsylvania Diversity Initiative will host a Career and Recruitment Fair from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Allegheny County Bar Association Auditorium, 414 Grant St., Room 920, Downtown. There will be representatives seeking candidates for positions such as nurses, behavioral specialist consultants, teachers and teacher assistants, case managers and more. Education seminar

MARCH 24—Duquesne University will host the Creating Success Through Literacy from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh, One Bigelow Square, Downtown. This is a two-day seminar for early childhood professionals that will provide an opportunity for professional development through speakers, breakout sessions and networking. PowerBreakfast

MARCH 25—The African-American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host their PowerBreakfast Meeting at 7:30 a.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown. The special guest will be Dr. Linda Lane, Superintendent of the Pittsburgh Public Schools. She will present the district’s initiatives and discuss the purchasing process for goods and services for the district. Reservations are required by March 23.
