MAY 5—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15 at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic is “Using Social Media to Grow.” David Tusich, a social media and advertising expert, will discuss the development of social media and why it’s important in today’s business environment. Networking event

MAY 11—WIN-Pittsburgh will host its Annual Accessorize and Socialize Networking Event from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Olive or Twist, 2nd floor, 6th St., Downtown. There will be a fashion show along with numerous networking opportunities. The cost is $30 for members and $45 for non-members. Reservations must be made by May 6. Informational job

session

MAY 12—Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Councilman Ricky Burgess will host the East Liberty Target Job Informational Sessions from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at East Liberty Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Highland Ave., East Liberty. This is the second of a three-part session to secure jobs for local residents. The store will open in July and the sessions will discuss the interviewing process, review sample interviewing questions and the hiring requirements. Annual meeting

MAY 13—The Board of Directors of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host their Annual Meeting and Luncheon at 11 a.m. at the Omni William Penn Hotel, Grand Ballroom, 17th floor, 530 William Penn Place, Downtown. There will be a meeting, followed by a luncheon with guest speaker Jared L. Cohon, President of Carnegie Mellon University. Reservations are required by May 6. Business basics

MAY 14— SCORE Pittsburgh will host a Small Business Basics Workshop at 8:30 a.m. at the PNC-YMCA, 2nd floor, 226 Fifth Ave., Downtown. This workshop is presented by working professionals and helps new businesses get off to the right start by studying the legal requirements of starting a business and covering key topics that will impact the success or failure of the business. There will be discussions on marketing, record keeping, taxes, business plans development and how to obtain a small business loan. Registration is requested by May 11 and the cost is $45. Inclusivity party

MAY 18—The Western Pennsylvania Diversity Initiative will host a Inclusivity Party from 6-9 p.m. at the LeMont Restaurant, 1114 Grandview Ave., Mt. Washington. This is a celebration of the economic development and diversity of Pittsburgh. Eric Peterson of the Society for the Human Resource Management will be the guest speaker. MAY 19—The University of Pittsburgh’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence will host “Kids, Wealth and Consequences: Financial Parenting for the Business Family” from 5:30-8 p.m. at the University Club, 123 University Place, Oakland. Financial parenting expert Jayne Pearl with local entrepreneurs’ strategies to better equip children of all ages to be financially aware, goal driven and focused.
