It was a beautiful site to see more than 100 women dressed in white, celebrating other women and their dedication and service, May 15.
In an afternoon service, the women of Homewood AMEZ Church honored Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Locally, the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has three mentoring programs that serve young women from the elementary through high school ages. Visions, Delta Gems and Delta Academy provide exposure to the arts, social and cultural events, health and fitness activities, and educational experiences in science and math.

The Links Inc. was also honored for their outstanding programming, which includes National Trends and Service, Services to Youth International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Service. The Links have attracted many distinguished women who are individual achievers and who have made a difference in their communities and the world. Yours truly was also honored for consistent service to the community.
The congregation, beautifully dressed in white, enjoyed the vocals of the St. Paul Baptist Church’s Worship and Praise Team; songs of praise by the Homewood Women’s Choir; a dramatic excerpt from “For Colored Girls who have Considered Suicide when the Rainbow is Enuf” performed by the Drama Ministry of Wesley Center AMEZ Church; and the dance of worship and praise performed by M.A.D.E. in His Image, the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Liturgical Dance Ministry.
Reverend Brenda J. Gregg delivered the preached word. She took her text from First Peter 1:6-7, the theme was “Only for a Season.” Reverend Gregg served for 18 years as senior pastor of the Greater Allen AME Church in Pittsburgh. She is the proud mother of three, has 26 years in the ministry and more than 37 years of health care experience, having been employed as a senior administrator for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In November 2009, Rev. Gregg was elevated to Presiding Elder of the Springfield-Xenia District in Ohio, where she was responsible for overseeing 19 churches in the Third Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal church. After serving the AME church for more than 30 years, Rev. Gregg has returned back to Pittsburgh to serve the City of Pittsburgh and beyond. Reverend Gregg says she is eager to see how God will move in her life during this “new season.”
